最终还是将圣诞节去cancun的行程取消了, 曾经梦想过好多次的cancun之旅, 机票和旅馆都定的恰到好处, 可以一场飓风还是将定好的假期吹的七零八落.

最初定在cancun hotel zone的旅馆Gran Melia Cancun最先在主页登出告示, 说一月十号才重开, 只好去hotwire 上取消预定(详情参考之前的blog), 不过一直对南面的圣诞夜期间的旅馆 Grand Oasis Riviera Maya心存侥幸, 一来比较靠南, 希望飓风危害不大, 二来它的主页上也没给出什么通知. 可以电话一直没人接, 询问的email也没有回, 弄得有些莫名其妙. 只好去网上google, 旅馆名+wilma, 结果先是在一个论坛上看到有人问该旅馆的损失情况, 另一人回答是it is really BAD. 后来总算在另一个论坛看到别人整理的cancun旅馆重开时间计划, 竟然要到一月底才可以, 彻底失望.

最后一根压下来的稻草是发现continential airlines 针对受wilma影响的cancun, cozumel, belize行程可以免费退票, 换成 Electronic Travel Certificate (ETC) , 12个月之内有效. 得, 我对重新在cancun一带找旅馆的信心已经丧失, 即使找到也很难有先前的旅馆那么满意了. 当人有了一个期望值之后, 想要超越就比较困难了. 还是等到明年冬天的时候再去了. 我心目中的游记题目: 登陆cancun, 在飓风wilma之后, 已经免费转让给其他的朋友了.

只不过, 今年的圣诞节到底有没有可能出行呢? 又要去哪里呢? 还有没有可能拿到好的deal了呢? 时间已经没有一个月之前那么从容了.

I have to cancel my cancun trip scheduled this Dec 20-27 due to Hurricane Wilma. At the beginning I planed to go even reading some damage of cancun locals. My first hotel at cancun hotel zone will not be reopened until Jan 2006, so I canncel it through hotwire and get all refunds. But I did not hear any news from my second at Akumal, which is south of cancun, even at their official website. I try to call them but nobody reply. email does not get answer too. Till today I start to google hotel name with wilma and found some information from a forumand knew that they will not open until Jan 31, 2006. And one guy’s comment for that hotel is the damage is bad.

Both of my hotels are gone, so the whole trip becomes questionable. At that time, I think all two hotels I reserved are pretty good, talking about the quality and price I paid. But now all of them had serious damage and can not open during the christmas season. I knew they are some others becan open this month, however how they are doing for the recovery and where to get some good deals all become issues. I do not want to take more risks.

One thing confirmed my decision to canncel my family cancun trip is I found continential airlines will give 12month credit refund without any service fee charge for any flights to Cancun, Cozumel, Belize, Detail are here. Electronic Travel Certificate (ETC) will be issued for any 12 months reservation. so I just gave a call and 5 minutes later all trip are cancelled. During this process, I am really satisfied at continental airlines and hotwires service. But in the future some travel insurance should be considered too.

Now I am back to one month ago when I was thinking what place to go for my family this christmas season. The bad thing is I lost a chance to visit the cancun, which we always dreamed. The good thing is all money get back, what I lost is just time. Homework will be prepared anyway for future and other friends’ reference.
