阿拉斯加出游功课学习小组

今年暑假全家多办打算去阿拉斯加看熊，现在准备起来似乎有些早，不过看见买买提上旅游版已经开始有人做功课了，所以设立个学习小组，大家一起分享准备功课的一些体会，这样我负责汇总起来，方便查询，欢迎大伙踊跃参加。

注意: 我关掉了这篇文章的评论, 因为太长了, 把整个blog速度拖慢. 大家可以换到下一个post接着讨论.

今天第一次利用ITA弹性机票试搜May 20-June 20之间的机票, AUS-ANC, 还很贵, 最便宜的是May 24, $494, 转两次, 感觉现在时间还早. 试搜Apr 20- May 20, $429. 嗯, 看来去Alaska 飞机票是个不小的开支. 不过上回去加拿大也是这个价钱范围了.

Starting from Anchorage and then covering Denali NP, Valdez, Glaciers, Seward, Kenai Peninsula, Kachemak Bay, Homer, Fairbanks and other interesting sights.

From Anchorage, you can take the Alaska Railroad to either Wittier or Seward to do glacier cruises. Whittier is my favorite (try Brad Phillips’ “26 Glacier Cruise” Phillips Cruises.) . You can also take the railroad up to Denali N.P. You can find out about accomodations on the railroad website, so you can put your own tour together. You can also check out Gray Line Tours..

You can take the rail up to Fairbanks after you visit Denali N.P and then take it back to Anchorage.

Anchorage has great hiking in Chugach State Park right next to town. Climb Flattop for a better view of Denali than you’ll get from a hotel in Denali NP. The mountain is invisible from there, unles you take the bus. Stay in Healy, 15 miles north of the entrance for the cheapest rooms.

Rent a car. Screw the tour. Book your own boat trip or kayak in Seward or Whittier. Google em. Try rafting with Nova on the 6-mile or the Matanuska. On your way to Denali, drive through Hatcher Pass. I like it better than the NP.

Day trips from Anchorage

1) rent a bike. There are bike trails all over town. 2) rent a car and drive 100 miles to the Matanuska glacier. You can walk all over it. 3) Knik glacier cruise. 4) Hiking Flattop Mtn. Beautiful view of Anchorage with Denali beyond. That would be my choice. 5) Go flightseeing to the Columbia glacier or Denali if it’s clear. $

the mosquitoes ENVELOPE you as you’re hiking. they bite you through your clothes if they can. no joke. i would suggest treating clothes with permethrin (?) if it’s really a concern. and DEET is a must. I hear Avon’s Skin-so-Soft works too. Regular Off will NOT work.

The mosquitoes are the worst in the interior of the state (Fairbanks and up) in early summer. South Central is more scenic and has fewer mosquitos.

Buy a headnet. They look ridiculous, but they work. wear gloves and long sleeves with no openings.

Make car reservations EARLY if you want to rent a car.
My biggest recommendation is to NOT rent your car at the airport. The tax will add a lot to your rate. Instead pick one of the agencies close by (like in Spenard) and take a cab for a few bucks to their pick up spot.

Rent a car. Seward has a sealife aquarium. Portage has a wildlife park with all the usual animals. The Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing is the best spot. From there, you can do day trips throughout the Kenai. I’d avoid Seward the first week of July, unless you are prepared to camp. It will be jammed. So will the rest of that peninsula, though not as bad.

    我5月初到西雅图开会，如果能碰上你们的话，我加入我加入！不过，可能性似乎不大唉。LD5月底有个会要开，所以不跟我去西雅图，撇下LD独自偷欢，这个这个……；而且要去阿拉斯加，至少至少至少也得请一周的假吧，我年初已经请过一次了，今年底还想回趟国，不好意思总请假；最后吧，估计你们也不会去那么早的。阿拉斯加啊，我从去年就开始想了……

    I am planning to buy a portable GPS first. According to worrier from MITBBS, the best one is Garmin 76CS. The best price on amazon is about $350.

    我对这次出游比较没底，老实说就是觉得怕怕的，以前都只在美国大陆玩：）我想去看熊抓salmon，想去看冰川，走极地，做小飞机，最好还有极光，但是这个季节都是大白天，可能没有极光了。不想八月去，人太多，太贵，准备camping＋住旅馆，随遇而安。比较可能六月七月去，大概十天左右。

    harrypotter, 如果你带laptop的话, 没必要买那么贵的GPS, 除非你是要hiking专用. 我的Garmin只要$150, 也很好用. Alaska就是贵, 其它方面很安全的, 不要怕, 和美国大陆区别不大, 设施都很好的,不过你要camping, 特别注意的是蚊子.

    我们会22号到Anchorage, 先到McCarthy, 再到Valdez,随后沿Richardson hy 过 Denali Hy到 Denali Nationaal Park. 再从Faribanks 飞Barrow， 或者也可以从Fairbanks 飞Gates of the Arctic 中间, 沿John River hiking 到Anaktuvuk (3days), 再从Anaktuvuk飞到Barrow. 唯一的遗憾，Alaska异地还车太贵了，只能让租来的车在Fairbanks空停5、6天了。

    各位有关于Air Taxi信息的话，告诉我。据说很贵。比如从Fairbanks 到Hunt fork Lake, 多少钱呢？ 从Anaktuvuk Pass 到Barrow 多少钱呢？实在没地方去问。 Fairbanks 到Barrow， Alaska Air $200 多one way. …

    我还没有开始功课, 不过我也听说了alaska许多小飞机旅游很贵, 根据自己的预算选择一下吧, 去Denali National Park的Mt. Mckinley 总要坐一趟吧, 其它等我有心得了会报告的, 你也继续分享啊 :D

    哪，我压根没开始做功课，都找不到人去，我自己一个嘛好像太累，老啦不比当年可以当独行侠啦（这个说法怎么样，比起“独自去XX”？哈哈），又比较费钱，只不过网上瞎逛碰巧看到的而已。

    所谓专业要专业到啥程度？大炮筒那种？

    To harrypotter: I have a GPS 60CS, but I think we can enjoy Alaska without a GPS as long as we are not doing some off-trail stuff. But then it depends on the trail condition out there. If the trails are covered with thick snow (which I am not sure) thus are not recognizable, a GPS would be helpful for us to keep on trail.

    刚刚查了Denaliçš„Camperbus,不太懂,是否只要买一张票进入公圆后,就可以随便坐么? 比如我第一天,坐30miles,第二天继续坐30mile,…最后坐回来,这样的话,可以路上拦车么??

    Andy, yes, I think that coupon book is deserved to buy. if you are going to use one of the coupons, you probabily save the money for the book. go to forum to see the detail coupon and talking about any chance to share it.

    Andy, did you buy your air tickets? share the time and price for reference?

    for coupon book, somebody told me when you use the coupon, you need to detach it from the couponbook. sounds odd, but you can help to confirm it is true or not. for selling, you can use the forum, I lisetd all coupon with number. anyway, use that as a reference. I guess 人气不很足. 但是mitbbs不愿意多讨论这类卖东西的在旅游版。

    Yes, I just noticed it. It is said that Coupon VOID if detached from booklet. Because we will take cruise from Whittier to Vancouver, we purchased one way ticket to Anchorage.

    We will finish our trip on June 18. So if any people want to use the remain coupons, I can send the booklet to them after June 18. :) I have already booked a Mt McKinley flight tour with glacier landing by using coupon. I called them for reservation and we save $220 already.

    We just booked the alaska trip from June 23 to June 30. We are flying from Minniappolis to Anchorage and arrie ANC at 10:30 PM. My week trip is:
    1. Leave ANC in 24 morning and take the Prince William Sound tour at Whitteer from 1:30 to 5:30pm, then drive to Kenai Fjords National Park for 24 night.
    2. Stay at Kenai Fjords till 2:00 Pm in 25 and drive back to ANC and stay there for 25 night (130m).
    3. Drive to Denali on 26 morning (180m) and stay till 4:00 pm on 27 th and then drive to Fairbanks (180m).
    4. 28th will be a busy driving day. Leave Faribank early in the morning and drive to Gate of Arctic (300m) and then drive back.
    5. Drive from Fairbank through Delta Junction and to Cooper Valley (300m) on 29 th.
    6. Drive back to ANC on 30th. The home fly is on 11:30 pm.

    Any good suggestions or comments to my trip are highly appreciated.

    Joy, welcome to share information. Yeah, car rental is expensive at Anchorage during the summer, I read the LP last time and mentioned some local car rental stores(which is not at airport), I am not sure how much we can save (but pretty inconvinent). I am thinking to try priceline and hotwire at least.

    我去的日子比较早，5月25号到6月2号，可能还是淡季，在机场NATIONAL订的COMPACT车，8天加税一共$238。行程和活动安排还没有准备：初步打算去Denali national park坐tour bus，坐CUIRSE或FERRY什么的，能看看小冰山。

    我在网上订了本COUPON BOOK，打算用来坐CRUISE和订旅馆（坐小飞机看雪山就免了，老婆和本人都晕车晕船，还恐高），所以那个220的COUPON就用不上了。等我6月初玩回来打算卖掉，有兴趣的可以和我联系啊。puppydesert@yahoo.com

    我手头没有, 是在书店看LP的书是里面提到的, 你可以自己去查一下, 要不等我周末抄一下. 不过如你所说, 我觉得即使当地小公司也很难省出多少. 另外priceline为啥不可以name price for alaska car rental? 奇怪, priceline 优势越来越少啦.

    Hi all, FYI. I have finally booked the airfare. PHL - ANC, 6.1 - 6.12, NW, $498/each. The $440 ones were gone when I called the CSR. :( However I used ITA to check the price and $500 was about the cheapest price without changing airports.

    Alaska行程活动安排初步搞定（May 25–June 2)

    May 25: Arrive Anchorage at 11:00 PM, princeline 拍的旅馆$50.

    May 26: South to Seward,portage glacier cuise($29,coupon no. 62),还有可能Exit glacier hiking,以及 kenai river floating,住sunrise inn 2 nights ($100,coupon no. 103).

    May 27: Kenai Fjords NP Cruise Tour($129 two persons, coupon no. 97)

    May 28: To Taleenta fight seeing with gracier landing ($220 two persons, coupon no. 108). 住Denali River Cabins 2 nights ($119, coupon no. 51)

    旅馆，两个cruise, 一个flightseeing, Denali shuttle bus都已经预定。在valdez的海上独木舟还没有确定，因为老婆和我从美划过，需要有人带领，在COUPON BOOK上没有找到COUPON,不知道哪家比较好。虽然我们晕车晕船，但不甘心放弃CRUISE和FLIGHTSEEING,豁出去了，多带点晕车药。欢迎拍砖。

    今天研究了一下VALDEZ独木舟活动。有两种选择：
    1。Columbia Glacier Kayaking：这个独木舟活动应该是最好的，能在海上漂浮的小冰山中穿来穿去，$199每人，没有COUPON, 两个人就要400，来回10个小时，其中独木舟时间6小时。
    2。坐Cruise去columbia glacier观光，但没有KAYAKING,有coupon, 两人$90，来回6小时。然后可以再参加一个Valdez Glacier kayaking and hiking，就在VALDEZ附近，$75/person，两人就150，一共花费240美刀。
    第一选项是我的梦想，但花费大，没有COUPON,第二选项省点钱，但KAYAKING肯定没有在哥伦比亚冰川来的难忘，虽然能过一把瘾：KAYAKING,在冰川上HIKING。

    Lisp, Flightseeing, they had sevearl coupons, the one I picked is 11:00am I remember, but not from Talkeetna, it is from Denali NP nearby. the one from Talkeetna was sold out at the day I want. 如果你的coupon写的只有9pm的, 你只能订那个时间的, 因为那家公司限时用coupon的人数, 所以要早打电话, 一问就知道了.

    至于homer订住处, 可以参考我写的那篇如何小地方订住处啊, 就是讲这种情况的.

    The Columbia Glacier Cruise leaves at noon and will take 6 hours or so. We do not plan to kayak the glacier bay so we decide to cruise. If your kayak is only three hours I think you can still make the cruise. any recommendation on where to stay at Denali? Thanks

    fufu, Columbia Glacier Kayaking will cost 6 hours on kayking, plus 2 hours on the way to and from there. You should prepare one whole day. unforunately, no coupon for kayaking in valdaz. there is a coupon for kayaking in seward, but i guess it is not so good as valdez.

    littleblue, have you tried Denali River Cabin? A coupon is availabe in toursave book.

    just changed cruise date to July 1, booked flight from 6/21(to ANC) to 7/9(from SEA). ticket price changed so fast, paid 100 more after a day.
    also booked car from arguscarhire.com, will call alamo to confirm it. plan to book a backup car reservation.
    start to book hotel now.

    我有点怀疑我们订的这个是不包括飞越山顶的。
