In Santiago there are plenty of Casas de Cambio (Money Exchange houses) where you can buy Chilean Pesos with US cash, especially in Downtown. The service is quite cheap and reliable (commissions are quite reasonable… rarely expect more than 2 % o 3%)

But if do not want to carry around lots of cash (especially in a very busy, crowded city as Santiago), you may want to use ATM machines. They’re in almost every gas station, metro station or supermarket. You can use your American Visa or Master Card. The commission is usually not much higher than the Casas de Cambio, but ask your bank about it first.

If possible avoid changing money at money changers. Exchange rate is quite lousy. Better to withdraw monies from ATMs.

in summer are common direct buses from Puerto Montt or Osorno to Pucon. I think in this off peak season it is more reliable take a bus P.Montt-Temuco and there a shuttle bus to Pucon (JAC buses)
buses P.Montt-Temuco are very frequent because in fact Temuco is an intermediate stop in the buses P.Montt - Santiago, I recommend you compare prices and don´t run to Turbus, there other firms cheaper and with similar quality (Pullman, JAC, Cruz del Sur, etc.)

You can catch a Jac bus from Puerto Montt direct to Pucon….. I just caught a Jac bus from Puerto Varas to Pucon about 6 days ago…. $5900 PESOS so I imagine from Puerto Montt is it probably only an extra $500 or $1000 PESOS…. It took 6 hours…. Take some lunch or snacks cos they didn´t stop long enough at stops to grab something….. Our bus did go into Valvidia though

From Pucón is about 10 hours but it depends on the level of service. A clásico from Temuco, the cheapest, will take longer as it stops a lot and I would not recommend it. Aside from the lowest level, a semi-cama will be about CLP$5,800 from Temuco and CLP$7,300 from Pucón.

There are plenty of buses between Santiago and Pucón. In summer you need to book as far ahead as you can for the top 2 service levels; premium and salon cama. In January there should be a couple every night.

Igillaima goes through Villarica and also goes to Panguipulli but you will probably have to change bus in Temuco.

一向喜欢坐夜车，不管是长途汽车还是夜行火车，因为又省时间又省旅馆钱。与其睡在便宜旅馆，还不如睡在豪华巴士上。测试后对Tur很满意，买了他家的票去 Puerto Montt蒙特港。14小时不到的夜车，买了Salon Cama，17000，没有餐饮。如果买Semi Cama，12000，大约10美元的差价。Salon Cama在楼下，Semi Cama在楼上。用不精确的几何术语描述，Salon Cama是160度角，Semi Cama是150度角。还有另外一个豪华级的座位叫Premium，是180度，应该类似于在阿根廷坐过的Cama Suite。那个Premium价钱要贵好多。35美元能坐14小时这么舒适的长途车，有捡到钱包的感觉。不过这个价是促销价，原价是41000。但是促销是常态，没有人付原价买票的。这是那天去蒙特港的大巴。没有餐饮服务，停站的时候可以买些东西。但是选择很少，可能是因为那些站都是Tur公司自己的站，而不是巴士总站。并不是只有Tur一家去Puerto Montt，Pullman也去，还有一家叫Bus Norte的公司，巴士上有Wifi。怪不得促销价这么好。商家有竞争，消费者才能得实惠。

出機場後找tur bus，有到捷運紅線「pajaritos」站，一人1700披索，
一次買來回便宜一點!
再從捷運站坐到你想要去的地方，捷運一段票約520披索(有分時段價格不同)。

3.聖地牙哥到Puerto Montt夢特港:
我們是搭乘tur bus公司的車，約12小時，下午6:31分發車，隔天早上7:40分到，
一人14,500披索，建議不要買車上的點心，在買票時他會問你要不要買，一人1800
披索，還ok啦，不過自已怕肚子餓的話，自已帶食物即可，我看整車好像只有我們買，
服務還不錯，所以我們回程也坐他們的車。回程的時間是下午18:45，隔日早上7:50分
到，一人票價17,800披索，但這班車semi cama和cama價格一樣,我們當然坐cama等級!

大家都推荐去一个market里面吃海鲜. 名字是Mercado Central.
The Mercado Central is now basically fish restaurants and some stalls selling fish and seafood. It is no longer the main market, which is across the river, La Vega, or (for fish) the Terminal Pesquero. Inside the Mercado Central there used to be an area with several restaurants offering meals, but now that has been taken over by just two restaurants. I think this has made it lose some of it’s charm. There are still a couple of small restaurants facing the street.

Many tourists like Donde Augusto, one of the two large restaurants. One of the small ones, Doña Camila, has the kitchen on view (about the size of my kitchen) and you see the produce arrive to be prepared. I always think that lack of storage place is a good thing in a fish restaurant.Prices are not cheap but the food is fresh. You will certainly see lots of locals eating there.

Yes, Terminal Alameda (the main Santiago Turbus and Pullman bus terminal) has a Custodia. It is situated on the basement level on the west end of the terminal.

The Custodia is a counter not lockers and you will be given a receipt. Check the hours of business when you leave your things.

在Terminal Alameda，也是同一地铁站旁边，而且这个terminal就这两家公司。网站上可以查时间和票价。去Valparaíso和Viña del Mar，这两家都有，而且都是频繁的班次。

长途巴士到达Valparaíso的长途总站Terminal Rodoviario后，离中心还有一段距离。一出来，门口就有Microbus去市中心，票价180。问一下是不是去Plaza Sotomayor。等你看到车开到一空旷地，左边是幢体面的蓝房子，右边是港口的时候，就可以下车了。码头那边有旅游咨询的亭子。这里离著名的Ascensor Concepcion也很近。

Valparaíso和Viña del Mar是连在一起的。沿着海边那条路有microbus去Viña del Mar，标志是Viñabus。路程20分钟到Viña市中心，票价330。

Valparaíso是由很多座Cerro（山）组成的，不同的Ascensor（电梯，实际上叫缆车更准确）上不同的山。Ascensor Concepcion上Cerro Concepcion，后来去乘的Ascensor El Peral上的是Cerro Alegre。还有一台重要的Ascensor Espiritu Santo，去参观露天博物馆和那个诺奖得主诗人在这里的怪房子，要用那台Santo电梯。

There is a market on Avenida Argentina, every Wednesday and Saturday and two markets more: The Mercado Cardonal, in the Almendral quarter, and the Mercado Puerto, located near the harbour.

這個城市有著便宜新鮮的海鮮，當我逛著這裡的海鮮市場是彷如置身天堂便宜的鮑魚、淡菜、魚蝦蟹貝讓人看的目不轉睛，因為價格實在是太便宜了。

三條各一斤重鱈魚類的魚居然只要2usd！！一公斤的新鮮魚卵也是2usd，鮑魚每顆10塊台幣，淡菜每枚約6塊台幣，至於滿滿蟹肉的帝王蟹一整隻約300台幣

The west coast of South America is washed by the Humboldt Current, the world’s strongest cold current. In both November and February I’ve been all along the coast from La Serena and Viña del Mar all the way south to the island of Chiloe. While inland the air temperature can easily get well into the 30s C, the water temperature all the way north to Peru is not likely to get much above 15°, about the same as here in Canada off the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia.

Chile is beautiful, but it’s not usually considered much of a bathing country. (Despite the words of their national anthem!) If you were to Google ” beach somewhere in Chile,” I bet you’d get a response: “Do you mean, beach somewhere in Argentina?”

旅馆定在Puerto Montt是因为Puerto Varas实在太贵，这家是在google map上看到的。Puerto Montt本身没有什么景点要去，只是一个中转站，住在汽车站附近会很方便。虽然听说那里不太安全，我倒没觉得，车站出来就是两个大的超市，天黑以后还是人来人往。

Puerto Montt, as stated in other responses, is not worth the time, it could be a great place for its surroundings and geography, but unfortunately it did not develop with any urban planning in mind.

Puerto Varas, Frutillar, Puerto Octay on the other hand, are important destinations for their beauty and activities available, especially during the summer months of December, January, February, and March.

Puerto Varas is also an excellent destination, it’s right in the heart of the lake district. It’s a residential town right nex to the bigger Puerto Montt. In Puerto Montt you’ll find all the necessary public transport, restaurants, bars, grocery stores…and more.
But it’s not a very nice city to stay in so it’s generally recommended to stay in the nearby Puerto Varas, where the infrastructure is also developped, but it’s a lot quieter and more relaxing. Puerto Varas is known as the city of roses.
Some excellent hotels in Puerto Varas: hotel Patagonico (5 star), Hotel Solace (4-satr), or Cabañas del Lago (3-star). They all overlook lake Llanquihue.

Puerto Varas is a larger town, that is not only tourism, but blessed with amazing views, the big lake, the lake circle tour, the lake crossing on Todos los Santos lake, a rugged coastline not far away (and with very few visitors), great eating, easy treks in Petrohue park, and amazing ones in the Cochamo area.

it is much easier to get choices for Puerto Varas to Osorno (relatively close by)
and Osorno is the obligatory stop for buses going between the two countries

早上8点开始到旅馆来接，巴士，船，巴士，船，巴士，船，巴士，晚上10点送到Bariloche旅馆，行李会跟着一路走。14小时的一日游，230美元，价格相当不菲。但是和坐过的人聊，都说好。也不都是有钱人，有个阿根廷人40美元的旅馆都嫌贵，但是说这个cruce非常值那230刀。

另外，坐了这个，智利这边就省掉了Peulla/Petrohue一日游60美元，阿根廷那边省掉Puerto Blest游船45美元和Circuito Chico半日游15美元，因为这里面都包括了。时间上和坐巴士也差不了多少，因为坐巴士下午3点多到，剩下的时间也就随便逛逛吃顿饭。虽然付230，但其它地方可以省掉60+45+15+30车费=150美元其他费用，再加2天时间和2天旅馆。最重要的是，那一段是两国湖区湖光山色的精华。所以算下来性价比极好，这次错过非常扼腕。但是如果天气不好就不要坐了，风景会大打折扣的。另外，夏季是一日游，冬季因为日照时间短，要分两天走完全程，当中在 Peulla住。虽然票价不变，但是Peulla只有一家很贵的旅馆，加上去性价比就降低了。当然，如果钱不是问题，在那种风景如画的地方过夜也很不错。

真是个好地方，溪流，瀑布，湿地，山丘，树林，无所不有，非常适合花上一整天时间hiking，当然前提是天气要好。

我还没决定要不要去酒店吃饭，进去看了下菜单的价格，不便宜啊，一个主菜都在七八千比索。算了，找找其他地方吧。结果在附近转了半天，别说饭店，商店也就找到一家，我进去打听了一下，店主说吃饭的地方只有饭店，还有一个民宿里也有供应便宜的menu，还帮我打电话问了一下，确认还有菜后，我就顺着他指点找到了那家民宿。这家的具体位置是在从小木桥内侧（不是湖的那侧）数起三幢浅黄色外墙房子的第三幢，进去敲门说吃饭就可以了。主人是一个老太和她女儿，经常接待不能去酒店吃饭的人和每天都要来的旅行社的工作人员等

4000比索的menu，有汤，主菜（炸鱼排或鸡排等），米饭，饮料，甜点，分量和口味都一流，性价比超高。想省钱的朋友，我就推荐这家了，仅此一家，别无他寻了！注意不要去太晚了。

On March 3 we did the crossing from Pto Varas to Bariloche. It went very smoothly. We were told to be at the office at 8:15 and the bus left promptly at 8:30.
we got to PUella around 12:30. They provide u with a list of activities u can pay to do until the bus picks u up at either 3:15 or 3:30 (there were two buses).

Chiloé

去智利第二大岛Chiloé. Chiloé是个很特别的地方，保存了原住民的文化，还有被列为世界遗产的木质教堂。对我比较有吸引力的是她的企鹅岛，除了麦哲伦，还有在Ushuaia 看不到的洪堡企鹅。这个一日游时间比较长，早8晚8。自己也可以摆渡过去，用公共交通，但是速度比较慢，需要在岛上住一晚。

The island is very nice to explore.I would advise you to rent a car and see the following places:

- the penguin colonies of Puñihuil
- Quemchi, Dalcahue y Castro (towns)
- Cucao beach
- Parque Tantauco - Tantauco Park (see link)
- whale watching (by small boats from Quellon)

Chiloe is very different from the rest of Chile. It is not as developed, but more real, where you can see many traditions, a more in depth Chile I would say.

Tours to the islands where nesting and Magellanic penguins Humdbolt, from 10.00 am to 19.40, boats leave every 20 minutes, the tour lasts 30 minutes.

Leave the city of Ancud on the coastal avenue and turn left after 12 km (gravel road). Siga 14 Km hasta un mirador a mano derecha y tome el camino por la derecha hasta la playa a 2 Km. (no hay servicentros en el camino) Continue 14 km to a lookout on your right and take the right road to the beach 2 km (no gas stations on the way)

There are plenty of operators out of Quellon. It is probably the easiest point to get to for you. Some are a guy with a boat and some are proper tours. I would recommend going with some sort of structured tour. You need to take a boat out of Quellon to the Golfo de Corcovado. There are boat trips to Melinka which are well worth taking. Parque Tantauco is in the area as well. You have to be prepared for rain on Chiloe at any time of year, but I am guessing you are equipped for that if you are in Natales.

我們住的Cabaña叫做Claro de Luna，離開Castro市區後繼續走5號公路約2-3公里，在公路的右邊。

至於買海鮮的地方叫做Feria，您可以問當地人: ¿Dónde está feria para comprar marisco?住址我不清楚，但是是在半山腰，牠們當地人說是Alto。

這樣的話我就可以告訴您傳統市場Feria在哪裡。那個Feria離市區還有10幾條街，而且是在半山腰，交通不方便，由於我們開車，所以沒問題。
我們住的小木屋是離市區三四公里的海邊，三房可以住9個人費用是$40000，比住旅館便宜多了。

LOCO和ABALO根本就是两个东西,前者就是我们口中所说的鲍鱼,但是和国内的鲍鱼根本就不能混为一谈.而ABALO才是真正的鲍鱼,和国内酒店里上百价格的是一样的东西.前几个礼拜,我接触了一位法国裔的智利,她就是做ABALO出口的，她也说两者根本不是一个东西,ABALO才是我们中国人所说的鲍鱼!

About 22 km (15miles) out of Pucon, take the road called Camino Internacional, and go straight, do not take the right hander that says to Argentina. When the road stops going straight, you continue up a freshly paved narrow road that says to Huife/ Menetue. (two more hot springs with lots of infrastructure). Keep on going, and watch the road. it’s not the widest. Eventually, you will pass a sign for Huife hot springs (hotel, bit more luxe), the next stop is Pozones. open 24 hours. Watch for the wood sign prohibiting certain nocturnal activities.

溫泉的西文是aqua caliente(熱水)，當我和巴西朋友聊天時，我問他巴西有沒有溫泉？巴西朋友大笑地回答我：
no , no hay aqua caliente , pero hay chica caliente (沒有溫泉，可是有熱情的妹)，caliente這個詞實在很妙， 用在物上面，是形容物體熱的狀態；而用在人上面除了可譯為”熱情”外，其實往往帶有性暗性成份在，指的是床事上熱情如火~ 所以當時在池中的人無不大笑，這實在是西文一個很妙的地方。

Chile is good for sea food, typical dishes include locos (abalone) as an appetizer, shell fish soup, grilled tuña, fish and chips (congrio is the best fish to choose), porotos granados (beans and squash), empañadas, again a snack or appetizer(meat and onion pasties) among others.

Donde Carlitos
A stone’s throw from the port are dozens of eateries specializing in whatever was caught that morning. You won’t find any fresher fish than at this tiny storefront restaurant near Mercado Central. Through a window on the street you can watch the chefs prying open oysters and rolling razor clams into empanadas. The simple dining room has a half dozen tables under chandeliers shaped like—you guessed it—ships’ wheels.

For a filling sandwich, a homemade küchen, and an espresso or cappuccino brewed from freshly ground beans, this is the place to stop in Villarrica. Pull up around a table in front or slip into one of the quieter booths by the fireplace in the back. The lomito completo sandwich—with a slice of pork, avocado, sauerkraut, tomato, and mayonnaise—is one of the best in the south.

Valdivia

這是個湖區大學城，以眾多的大學位於這城市而聞名。
來到Valdivia就該去著名的傳統市場Feria Fluvial走走看看，
雖然這裡的海鮮以新鮮便宜而聞名

Prepaid SIM card:
There are 3 companies in Chile that provide that kind of service: Entel, Movistar and Claro. They should have prepay sim cards for your iPhone. If I had to choose one of them, I would pick Entel, it’s far more reliable than the other two.

Definitely buy your SIM card at Falabella or Paris, both are department stores. The sim card is 11,000 CLP with a 10,000 credit. You can set it up for data as well. I am here for 6 months and purchased one to use in my iPhone. The only problem that I have had so far is that the prompts to reload the minutes are in Spanish (and I don’t speak a word of Spanish). Luckily someone helped me set it up initially

Money:
Get a Cirrus-network ATM card with a 1% exchange fee or less and no per use fee and use at Chile Banco Estado ATMs which charge no Chile-side per use fee. (Bank Direct ATM-ONLY card, etc.)

Get a Plus-network ATM card with a 1% exchange fee or less and no per use fee and use at Chile Banco Security ATMs which charge no Chile-side per use fee. (Everbank debit card, etc.)

Get an ATM card with a 1% exchange fee or less and no per use fee that reimburses you for any per use fee charged by a foreign ATM. (Schwab debit card)

Get a Bank of America ATM card and use only at Chile Scotiabank or Banco de Desarrollo ATMs to receive just a 1% exchange fee and no per use fee at either end.

Most high-end US bank accounts issue exchange and fee free/ reimburse all fees debit cards. (Citigold, etc.)

Make sure the bank is advised beforehand that the card will be used in Chile, Argentina, etc.
